I wanted to write an entry about our family's New Years celebrations before I completely forget the details. We had a lot of fun. We let our oldest have a friend sleep over as we thought she'd have a lot more fun with a friend to stay up with. We let the younger two girls stay up as well, but they only made it till a little after 10 o'clock. We rented two movies, made popcorn, and played a ton of games.
For movies the kids and I watched "Dispicable Me" while the oldest and her friend watched "Twitches Too" later in the night. I liked "Dispicable Me" although I had no idea it had the adoption story built in. It was a bit of a surprise, though I thought they handled it "alright". Certain issues were glossed over heavily (abandonment especially), but not horribly.
On New Year Day, I got to take the kids to see "Tangled" and this was our oldest's second time seeing it. I really liked it and although the girls did too, our youngest was a balling mess near the end. Poor kid. I was pretty surprised just how demented the villainess was in this movie.
Like I said, we played a ton of games on New Year Eve. Rather than post a bunch of separate entries, here's the dump:
- Started with
Apples to Apples Kids:
Four teams: youngest on my team, middle on Kel's team, with oldest and her friend playing on their own team each. Oldest won.
It was a fun game. I got the evil eye from our middle kid several times.
- Then youngest wanted to play
Gulo Gulo:
Six player game, our whole fam plus oldest's friend. Oldest's friend won. Youngest exclaimed resolutely afterwards: "I do not like not winning."
We know that hon ;)
- Then Animal Upon
Animal:
Quick game of this before we started a movie for the kiddos. Was between me and all the kids present but the youngest... at least until the youngest heard all the laughter, then I gave up my spot for her to play.
- After the first movie Kel and I played
Dominion:
Quick game between Kel and I before we started the second movie for the kids. Had a lot of the cards I like to play around with, the Village, Smithy, Chapel. Lots of cards with +Actions or +Cards or both and the ability to thin your deck. It was a very tight game, I won by three points.
The kids watched very curiously most of the game.
It has been waaaay too long since we got to play this, need to remedy that (resolution?).
- Then played a game of
Diamant:
With the youngest two and Kel while the oldest and her friend watched a movie. The kiddos were clearly getting tired by this point in the night so we had to play the last few rounds pretty quickly. Youngest got off to an immense lead after staying in way past the point she should have... We had to talk her out of staying in, only to find that the next few cards in the deck were "big money" (we usually check the next few cards to see what we "missed"). Kel ended up doing something similar in the last round of the game and took the win.
Younger two kids went to bed right after this game.
It was hilarious how tired the youngest two were while playing this game. They were fighting tooth and nail to stay awake.
All in all a great New Year weekend :)
